Latrace field in Richmond was the scene of the 2017 BC Baseball College Showcase All-Star games. There were 2 separate games played. One for grade 11 players and one for grade 12 players. Between the age groups, over 60 players were in selected and out to play in the games. Scouts and recruiters from several Colleges and Universities were in attendance including, Shawn Corness, University of the Fraser Valley, Sammie Star UBC, Nick Salahub, Vancouver Island University and Dave Snell, Shoreline Community College near Seattle Wash. Corness and Sallahub also gave a hand on the field coaching the players. The players were all put through Combine testing prior to their games. The Combine tests show the speed, strength, and agility of the players. The testing was done by Matt Holzman and a team from Twist Sport Conditioning. The players will be emailed their results. Just before the start of games players showcased their fielding abilities and arm strength as they were hit flyballs and groundballs in front of the scouts. The scores in both games were close. There was lots of outstanding pitching, great batting, and excellent defense in both games. The players also had a lot of fun as they teamed up with the best players from teams they would normally compete against.
This was the second year this event was held at Latrace.
