Junior Men's Tier 1 Champions - Newton Giants
The Lower Mainland Junior Men’s 2015 Final 4’s (Tier 1/Tier 2) Championships were held August 8th and 9th at Holly Park in Surrey, with 4 semi-finals on Saturday and 2 finals on Sunday.
TIER 1: The Newton Giants repeated (again) as champions, defeating Cloverdale Spurs 7-0 in an all-Surrey final on Sunday. The Giants advanced to the final after defeating the Chilliwack Braves 9-2 in one Tier 1 semi-final on Saturday, while the Spurs defeated Tri City Indians 4-0 in the other Tier 1 semi-final. The Giants win in the final marks the 6th time in 7 years that a Newton team has won the Tier 1 championship, with the Giants taking the last three (2013-2015). They picked up where the Newton Beavers left off, after the Beavers won the first three Tier 1 finals (2009-2011) before dropping the 2012 final by a 2-1 score in extra innings to Ridge Meadows Royals. After aging out of the Junior Men’s (25U) Division the Beavers moved on to the LMBA (Lower Mainland Baseball Association) in 2013 where they continue to have success, winning the 18+ division championship in 2014 and challenging for it again this year
